Norwegian Fingerless Mittens

Growing up in northern Norway, I always admired the Selbu-style mittens everyone was wearing. As I am now living in Australia, I wanted to create a straight forward pattern for fingerless mittens to be used for a little bit warmer climates. This pattern was originally made for doing workshops at Pappa Sven Scandinavian shop in Newcastle, Australia, July 2026. The mittens are worked in the round with stranded colourwork using 5 double pointed needles and a chart. The pattern suits an intermediate knitter with some experience in stranded colourwork. It includes increases, decreases and picking up some stitches for the thumb. Sizing can be adjusted by using smaller or larger needles. Gauge for 10x10cm in 2 colour stranded stocking stitch: Size M with 3mm and 3.5mm needles, is 27 sts and 30 rows. Size L with 3.5mm and 4mm needles, is 24 sts and 27 rows. Yarn used was around 80m of main colour and around 25m of pattern colour in both sizes.
