Cupples' Wave

This 1871 pattern is from Mrs. George (Anne Jane) Cupples, published in Edinburgh, Scotland. This pattern has a repeat of 15 stitches with 4 edge stitches. Even if tempted, don’t eliminate all the edge stitches unless you’re working in the round: there’s a double yarn over that needs an edge stitch to control it and to make an eyelet. There are 16 pattern rows with half the rows “purl across” except for the 2-stitch garter stitch edge. After a few rows, you’ll hardly need the instructions as this pattern is very repetitive - in a good way! If I were making a baby blanket, I’d consider not blocking this extremely textured pattern; the cushy-ness would be comforting to a little one. Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, k2tog, SSK, YO twice and bind off. Gauge is **not** important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
