Luddite

**This is my first attempt at a tapestry crochet pattern - please be kind!** This pattern was inspired by conversations about the Luddites of West Yorkshire, England and their rebellion against new machinery replacing textile workers in 1812. Luddites were famous for destroying machines with hammers and, at present, machines cannot recreate true crochet. To represent these two facts my design has a hammer crossed with a crochet hook. **If you are viewing this between August 2026 and August 2028** This tapestry will be on display as part of an exhibition called "Ludd In the Machine" at Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills in Leeds, UK. I used DK weight yarn and a 4mm hook to create my example but this pattern will work with any size yarn and hook. There is no specific gauge for this pattern. I chose to carry my yarn when changing colours for a cleaner look, but please use whatever method of colour work you prefer. For best results I recommend using high contrasting colours.
