Sometimes the best trips are the ones where everything feels easy and the beauty is in the quiet details. These socks are a little like that. Introducing the 12th pattern in the Memories Socks series: Barcelona Memories Socks No. 2. Barcelona holds a special place in this series because that’s where the tradition began two years ago. This time, though, we knew the streets and our favourite spots which allowed us to simply be there and enjoy every moment. These socks reflect that feeling. They look simple at first, but the details make them special. I've used a delicate lace motif to capture the warmth and sunshine Barcelona is known for, giving them a light, summery feel. The construction is toe-up and follows my usual approach with a comfortable sole gusset and slip stitch heel. The fun part comes at the cuff, which is knitted sideways to create detailed stripes that would be tricky to achieve otherwise. One of my favourite details is the ribbed effect in the cuff, achieved with garter stitch. Solid or semi-solid yarn in lighter shades will let the lace pattern shine. The toe is shaped with lifted increases placed at the sides. Gusset increases are worked along the sole rather than the sides. The heel base is shaped with short rows, followed by a slip-stitch heel flap worked back and forth. The leg is worked to the desired length, then finished with a sideways cuff knitted flat, featuring a lace pattern and garter rib. The cuff is joined simultaneously to the live leg stitches as it is worked, then seamed to connect at the end.
