The Fault Lines Pullover is a DK weight modified drop shoulder sweater knit in a hurdle stitch pattern with alternating sizes of hurdles. It has a crew style neckline with a picked up collar, and is worked top down (flat for the armhole shaping, then in the round for the remainder of the body and sleeves) with a sloped drop shoulder construction. The yoke section is worked at a smaller stitch count than the full bust, and has some increases at the bottom, and some underarm cast on stitches to increase to the full bust measurement. The sleeves have a small amount of short row shaping at the top before working in the round. The collar, cuffs and bottom edge have a 1x1 ribbed hem. The sweater is designed to fall to a high hip level. The pattern is intended to be a boxy fit, but has options for some waist shaping/bust darts if desired, as well as adjusting length as needed for the body and sleeves. The sweater is designed for 4-8 inches / 10-20 cm of positive ease. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your bust and add 4-8 inches / 10-20 cm to find the closest size. If you are in between sizes, size down for a snugger fit, or up for a looser fit. My sample is knit with 7 inches / 17.5 cm of positive ease (Size 4 on a 37 inch / 90 cm bust and 30 inch / 75 cm waist).* *Note: If you are fairly busty, you may want to use less positive ease, or knit a size based on your upper bust measurement rather than your full bust measurement. This will help prevent the sweater being too loose around the rest of your torso. If you are working with less positive ease than recommended for full bust, you may need to add some additional rows for armhole depth.* **Needles recommended:** - 5 mm / US 8 / UK 6 (or size needed to obtain gauge) - main body - 4 mm / US 6 / UK 8 (or two sizes down from the main needle) - ribbing - Cord length to match your bust measurement as well as 9-16 inch / 22.5-40 cm cord for the sleeves (or DPNs or 32-40 inch / 80-100 cm cord for the magic loop method). **Gauge (blocked):** Hurdle pattern (see images): Using 5 mm / US 8 / UK 6 (body) needles: (I recommend swatching both in the round and flat, as parts of the sweater are knit flat before joining in the round. If your flat gauge is significantly different than your round gauge, you can adjust needle size for the flat portion.) 4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 21 sts x 30 rows/rounds 1 x 1 Ribbing: Using 4 mm / US 6 / UK 8 (ribbing) needles 4 x 4 inch / 10 x 10 cm = 22 sts x 32 rows/rounds **Yarn recommended:** One colour of any DK weight yarn to match gauge. My sample is knit using Golden Hour Knitwear - Simply DK (100% Fine Superwash Merino wool, 246 yds / 225 m per 100g) in the colourway Inkwell. A great commercial alternative is Knitpicks Swish DK! **Yardage required:** The estimates provided are based on the recommended lengths for body and sleeves (from schematic), and based on ending the body and sleeves on a purl round after a short hurdle so that the ribbed cuff/hem act as the next long hurdle. The row/round repeat is approx. 1.25 inches / 3 cm long, so if you want to add an additional full repeat you'd need to account for an additional 1.25 inches/ 3 cm. **Yardage Estimate** 945(980, 1145, 1275)(1315, 1460, 1550)(1640, 1725, 1890, 1980) yds / 864(896, 1047, 1166)(1202, 1335, 1417)(1500, 1577, 1728, 1811) meters **Yardage Estimate - Additional inch / 2.5 cm of body length (colour dependent on size):** 30(34, 38, 41)(45, 48, 53)(56, 60, 63, 68) yds / 27(31, 35, 38)(41, 44, 48)(51, 55, 58, 62) meters *Note: Yardage is an approximation and is calculated using the recommended measurements (see schematics), plus approximately 5% extra. Allow for extra yardage if choosing to add length. Yardage can vary depending on your gauge and knitting, so I always recommend buying extra in case you require more yardage.*
