The Sedona Shorts are comfortable, casual bottoms featuring a high-waist fit and clean stockinette finishes with foldover hems, an elastic waistband, and i-cord drawstring. Knit in a blend of cotton, silk, linen, and alpaca, these bottoms are lightweight, breathable, and SO soft! They are perfect for wearing out and about, while traveling, or being comfortable at home. The pattern includes instructions to work the bottoms as shorts or pants. These bottoms are worked from the top down in the round, starting with a provisional cast on. The waistband is worked to twice its width, then folded over to encase elastic and an i-cord drawstring. The live stitches are knit together with the provisionally cast-on stitches to close up the waistband. The shorts are then knit in stockinette stitch while working increases from the waist down to accommodate the full hip. Once the desired rise is reached, short rows are worked to extend the length of the back of the shorts. Stitches are then placed on hold for one leg and additional stitches are cast on to close up the leg. The leg is worked in stockinette stitch until the desired length before working the inside of the folded hem. If working pants, decreases are worked along the inner leg to create a straight-leg fit. The live stitches are sewn down to the inside of the shorts. Stitches for the second leg are returned to the needles with additional stitches picked up along the cast on edge, then worked the same as the first leg. Optional pockets may be added, started by picking up stitches just under the waistband. Increases are worked along one edge of the pocket, then worked straight to the desired depth. I recommend choosing a size to fit your waist comfortably then adjusting increases as needed to accommodate your hips and thighs. The best way to determine a comfortable fit at the waist is to take the elastic you will use for the waistband, hold it around your waist at the point where you want your shorts to sit and pull it to a comfortable tension. Measure the length of the elastic at this comfortable point and choose the size with the finished waist measurement closest to this length.
