This sweeping crescent off the Strand, once thick with traffic, has been gradually reclaimed: pavements widened, the grand London Plane trees along its curve preserved and celebrated instead sacrificed to the road. What was a thoroughfare is becoming a place to be. Somewhere to sit under a canopy of leaves, to notice the long curve of the crescent, to feel the particular city pleasure of lush greenery in an unexpected concrete corner. The Aldwych Shawl is a shallow, long triangle worked in DK weight yarn. Rows of garter stitch build a satisfying, squishy fabric, punctuated by rhythms of easy chevron lace.
