Reliquary Sweater

The Reliquary Sweater is inspired by the Saint Chapelle reliquary in Paris France, commissioned by Saint King Louis IV. It is an architectural masterpiece- a true tribute to gothic cathedral beauty. The reliquary sweater features cathedral motifs all around the yoke, which is deep in order to accommodate the coverage and width required when nursing, or fluctuating bust size during pregnancy, post-partum, and menopause(see third photo). If you do not fall into any of those categories but still love the sweater, then that is exactly what I designed it for! It is intended to have accessible features for those of us who need them, but to still appeal to anyone. Feel free to achieve a shorter row gauge to shorten the yoke depth. A unique trait of this pattern is that it is intentionally designed to allow the knitter to feature either one or two cathedrals front and center. The knitter will also have the option of placing their favorite cathedral (if variegated yarn is chosen each cathedral will look different) in the front. It is the perfect Halloween sweater that is not too Halloween to wear outside of the season. The short row shaping takes place after the ColorWork is completed, so there is no need to worry about front and back until then. It is designed to fit bust measurements of 28-63" or 71-160cm with 8-11 inches of positive ease. Please see the final photo for the complete sizing chart. Yarn Requirements: MC yardage 1094, 1177, 1243, 1365, (1460, 1617, 1728, 1827,) 1892 MC grams 445, 479, 505, 555, (594, 657, 703, 743,) 769 CC yardage 207, 223, 248, 270, (286, 302, 334, 349,) 366 CC grams 86, 93, 102, 113, (119, 126, 139, 146) 152 Modifying the length will require an additional 46, 50, 53, 53, (62, 68, 72, 76,) 80 yards per inch/2.5cm. The recommended yarn is Sincere Fiber Co Happy Hills DK; however many of my test knitters opted for Raelynn's worsted base to achieve gauge more easily. This is a very acceptable alternative as the yardages are quite comparable at 246 yards for DK and 219 yards for worsted. Finished Bust measurements; 39, 43, 47, 51, (55, 59, 63, 67,) 71 inches 99, 109, 119.5, 129.5, (139.5, 150, 160,) 170 cm Model has a 35.5” bust and is wearing a size 3.
