Knit in one continuous piece, the Fell Swoop bag has an excellent shape. It has classic lines and features a broad shoulder strap/carry handle and a small, cocoon-like body.
In terms of the knitting project/process itself, the Fell Swoop also has a pretty nice flow! It’s one of those interesting constructions with a little bit of a twist to it: this is all knit flat, and there’s no separate seaming step at the end (technically, there are no seams). Follow the instructions, and you’ll get a three-dimensional bag with only minimal finishing required for a polished result.
You can get a good idea of your gauge and how your fabric will act early on (built-in swatching!), and the gauge should be right in the middle of what you’d expect for a yarn like this—it’s firmer than most net-style market bags, but still has a little bit of give.
My big test for this bag is just—so many partial cones of weaving yarn. This definitely has enough volume and structure to support the yarn part of your next knitting project, and should be up to any shopping a disposable plastic carrier bag can handle.
**Materials:**
* 235-250 yards of Valley Yarns 3/2 Cotton
* 1 24”+ circular needle in US 5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge
* tapestry needle for weaving in ends
* crochet hook, size suited to yarn (for provisional cast-on)
* scrap yarn (for provisional cast-on)
* removable stitch markers—optional, but nice to have to easily keep track of row counts
**Gauge:**
Gauge is 11 sts and 14 rows over 2"/5cm of garter stitch, worked flat and gently blocked. Please be sure to check your gauge.
**Measurements:**
One size! These are flat measurements after blocking:
