I enjoyed making a full-size afghan block of this pattern so much, I decided to make 2 mini versions of it. I’ve changed the number of rows and stitches but this mainly follows the original pattern written by Mrs. George (Anne Jane) Cupples, published in 1871 in Edinburgh. The vast majority of the pattern is knit and purl stitches. There are roughly 70 rows but this block was easy to work.
The blue block and the ecru block are identical in pattern but differ in color, yarn and needle sizes.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, M1, M1p (see notes), k2tog, p2tog and bind off.
Gauge is **not** important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
30 yards of Bernat Softee Baby Cotton yarn will make one block of Cute Coral Counterpane.
4.5 stitches/inch and 11 rows/inch in garter stitch – blocked
with Bernat Softee Baby Cotton yarn and U.S. #6 (4mm) needles
16 yards of #20 cotton crochet thread will make one block of Cute Coral Counterpane.
10 stitches/inch and 22 rows/inch in garter stitch - blocked
with #20 ecru cotton crochet thread and U.S. #0 (2mm) needles
