Alder mitts

The Alder mitts are designed for everyday wear in colder weather. They combine a clean shape with subtle surface detail. The cuffs are worked in twisted rib for a close, elastic fit that keeps the mitts comfortably in place. The hand is worked in smooth Stockinette stitch, allowing the cable pattern on the back of the hand to stand out. The mitts are worked in the round from the cuff up, with the thumb shaped using gusset increases for a natural and comfortable fit. The finger and thumb openings are finished with simple ribbing, creating a neat and practical edge. SIZE 1 (2) Circumference around the hand: 19 (24.5) cm / 7.5 (9.75) inches. Length: Adjustable. YARN 160 (180) m / 180 (200) yards of light fingering- weight yarn held together with 160 (180) m / 180 (200) yards of lace-weight yarn such as mohair, or 160 (180) m / 180 (200) yards of sport-weight yarn. Sample: 1 (2) balls of Filcolana Alva (100% alpaca; 175m / 190 yards per 25 g), shown in the colorway 383 and 1 ball of Filcolana Tilia (70% mohair, 30% silk; 210 m / 230 yards per 25 g), shown in colorway 336. NEEDLES 3 mm / US 2.5 double pointed needles or a circular needle with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting. GAUGE 26 sts and 32 rounds = 10 cm / 4 inches over the cable pattern in the round, after blocking. Note: Always use the needle size that gets you the right gauge!
