Autumn's Treasure

Autumn’s Treasure Fine Lace Shawl is a triangular shawl inspired by Shetland fine lace knitting. It is knit in one piece from the centre top down with a deep lace edging knitted onto the bottom edge. It can be made in a laceweight yarn from a fine cobweb to a regular 2 ply. Both charted and written instructions are included in the pattern. The shawl is knit on a garter stitch ground so there are no purl stitches, and the shawl looks the same from either side. The lace is made using just YO, K2tog, SSK and K3tog stitches worked on the ‘right side’, with rest rows of plain knitting on the way back. If you prefer, you can use k2tog for all the two stitch decreases, as some Shetlanders do. The shawl shown here measured 85cm/33in deep x 170cm/67in wide and weighed about 60g in a fine laceweight yarn. It was knit in a 2/28mn Merino/Cashmere/Silk blend yarn from Colourmart. Requirements: 800m/872yds – 1000m/1094yds of 1 or 2 ply/laceweight yarn. 2.75mm/US 2 circular needles or your preferred size for your yarn. It is good to have a shorter cable to start on and then a longer one as the shawl gets larger. Wool needle to darn in ends. Optional Contrasting coloured thread for lifelines. Optional Stitch markers.
