Ontario Shawl

A two colour lace shawl with beads and nupps and two colour brioche. The Ontario landscape flower is the Trillium, which I used as inspiration for this new member of the Canadian Geography Series. Difficulty Medium. Both charts and complete written pattern with row by row instructions included. Some charts have both RS and WS rows charted, but WS rows are very simple. Size Using recommended yarn and needles: 22 ¾ in (58 cm) deep, 72 ½ in (184 cm) wingspan. Pattern is one size. The brioche section can be worked as ribbing (instructions included). Yarn 2 x 100 g Manos del Uruguay Marina (100% merino) 874 yards (799 meters) / 100 g in different colours. Main colour: Shown in Luna (approx. 75 g used). Contrast colour: Shown in Steampunk (approx. 35 g used). Contrast colour is used for the brioche section and the final edge. If working ribbing instead of brioche, CC yardage will be less. If using heavier weight yarn (and larger needles), yardage will be more. Needles (suggested) US 3 (3.25 mm) circular needle, *at least* 80 cm long. You will have approx. 500 sts on your needle at the end. Construction You will begin with a tab cast on at the center top and work down and out from there. The shawl is bound off with a beaded leafy edge worked sideways. Gauge Gauge is not important for fit, use a needle size that gives you a fabric you like. When blocked, chart A + B (= up to the first eyelet row) measures 6 ¾ in (17 cm) from cast on edge in recommended yarn. Beads Optional. Use size 8/0 or 6/0 seed beads (rocailles), or the size you think fits your yarn. Here was used Czech Preciosa size 8/0 in colour metallic silver. Numbers needed: Nupps chart F+G: 164. All flowers: 43. Nupps chart H: 115. Edge: 248. In all: 570 beads. Other notions Stitch markers to mark repeats. Small crochet hook or other gizmo for placing beads (if using beads). Darning needle.
