Sunflower Seed Scarf

Inspired by the humble Sunflower seed, the Sunflower seed scarf pattern features a simple diamond lace pattern, and includes instructions to knit both the scarf shapes shown. Please note that the instructions are charted only, and the pattern can be knitted either in fingering yarn held together with mohair lace, or with one strand of sport weight yarn. **Materials:** • 3.5mm / US size 4 needles, or size needed to meet the required gauge. • Tapestry needle for sewing in threads. • Blocking materials. • Both the shawl and scarf are worked with one strand of fingering weight yarn held together with one strand of lace weight yarn; a mohair/silk blend is used for samples. The shawl sample (grey, shown above) is worked in Nurturing Fibres Kid Silk Lace - 72% mohair, 28% silk, 210m / 230yds per 25g and Miss la Motte Feather – 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon, 366m / 400yds per 100g, and is shown in colourways Forged (Kid Silk) and Dutch Still Life (Feather) and approximately 210 m / 246 yards is required of each yarn. The scarf sample (yellow, shown below) is worked in Miss la Motte Cloud Lace - 70% mohair, 30% silk, 425m / 465yds per 50g and Big Fox Yarn Perfect Sock – 75% superwash merino, 25% nylon, 366m / 400yds per 100g, and is shown in colourways Garland (Kid Silk) and Yellow Ochre (Perfect sock) and approximately 105 m / 123 yards is required of each yarn. **Size:** The shawl measures 31cm / 12.2” at the widest point and is 102cm / 40” long and the scarf measures 9cm / 3.5” by 102cm / 40”. The size of both the shawl and scarf are easily adjusted by adding extra repetitions of Chart 2 (and Chart 3 for the shawl) but changes will alter yardage requirements. **Gauge:** 26 stitches and 30 rows = 10cm / 4” in lace pattern, worked flat and blocked. Working to gauge is not vital for this pattern, but a change in gauge will alter yardage requirements.
