**Pattern Information** The Shia shawl was inspired by the soothing pattern created by the Shifting Sands cable pattern. Shia means “sand” in the Ga language. The Shia shawl is worked from tip to tip. You’ll start at one end with 7 stitches and increase along the lefthand edge until you have 53 stitches. You’ll then decrease along the left-hand edge until you have 7 stitches again. You will then cast off. You will need to block this project, otherwise the edges will curl in significantly. What’s great about this pattern is that if you have less or more yarn, you can work fewer or additional increases until you’ve used 50% of your yarn, then begin the decreases. **Finished Measurements** Approximately 134cm/52.75inches wide 26.5cc/10.5inches deep See also schematic in the pattern pictures **Gauge** 20 stitches, 28 rows per 10cm/4inches in stocking stitch and Shifting Sands pattern (after blocking) **Needle Size** 4.5mm (US 7) straight or circular. Or needle size which meets gauge Small cable needle **Yarn Requirements** DK, 112m/122yds per 50g/ 225m/246yds per 100g – or similar yarn to get the correct gauge.
