Arborea

Arborea is a lace & mesh semicircular shawl describing the botanical cycle of bud, blossom, and fruit. It is named for the beautiful book *The Serviceberry* by Robin Wall Kimmerer. This pattern was offered free for June 2026, in gratitude for the many generosities I’ve received over the years. In that spirit, I invite you to look for some way to pay it forward - plant something that enriches your local ecosystem, choose empathy over outrage, pick up some rubbish, help an insect, smile to a stranger. It needn’t be grand - small actions can have more impact than you predict. - The pattern is **charts only**, and these charts are dense and complex. This is a challenging pattern, and requires being able to read your knitting. - The pattern is written for 3 wedges, making a deep crescent, or it can be worked with 2 wedges for half circle. - Suits lace to fingering weight yarn. - Uses 800-900m (875-975y) of heavy lace/light fingering weight yarn. (The edging can be extended to soak up a little extra yardage.) - The design suits solid, very mild semi-solid, or gradient yarn. - My project page can be found [here][1]. This design is closely adapted from Kirschblüten by the amazing Herbert Niebling, with alterations to start and finish. There is a casual KAL for Arborea running [here][2] in the Nimble Knits group.
