Book Dragon Beanie

The Book Dragon Beanie is based on the sprayed edge dragon silhouette artwork from the Fourth Wing book series. It is worked using two colours of yarn in either fair isle or double knitting method. It is assumed that you know fair isle or double knitting basics. The double knitted variation results in a thick reversible beanie but can be quite tricky to knit especially when doing Centered Double Decrease stitches. I would class this as an intermediate difficulty project based on the double knitted part. Pattern includes charts for large (approx. 57cm circumference) and small (approx. 52cm circumference) size as well as dragon facing up and down for a total of 4 charts. The golden feathertail dragon Andarna (Gold Wing) is an optional feature of the middle smaller dragon and is worked by double stitching after the beanie is finished. I’ve used a tripled yarn by continuous looping rayon/viscose blend yarn from Temu that has a band with Lamb Baby on it. The beanies used roughly 75gm of each of the MC and CC which means you’ll need one of each MC and CC and a small amount of the third colour if you decide to add the Gold Wing feature. Any double knitting weight yarn would do fine though. I’ve used 2.5mm circular needles and sock needles in the pictured sample but you could use 2.25mm needles to obtain a tighter weave if desired. Finished product would be smaller accordingly. You can adjust needle size to obtain gauge.
