YoYo Waffle Cowl

Continuing in my current playground of No-Purl patterns, here is the YoYo Waffle Cowl. As with the Trikona Cowl, a single ball of our Superwash Worsted is divided and worked from contrasting ends. The cowl uses up nearly all of the 330 yard ball (depending on your gauge etc), so it fulfills my love of getting every penny’s worth out of the ball, and leaving little waste – I did in fact play yarn chicken with the sample shown here, so in the pattern I suggest one less repeat, but you can see how it goes for you! The cowl appears to be worked in the round but in fact some of the “rounds” are done back and forth, the whole pattern is an easy to memorize 8 row repeat, worked with simple knit and slip stitches. What I love about this method is that each side of the cowl presents an alternate dominant color, and it’s great fun watching the foreground and background play off each other. The cowl is a full length of a stretchy 44″ in diameter, allowing you to wear it as a scarf, un-looped, or double it around your neck for a more cozy and warmer knit. The cowl is 6″ tall, and when doubled is just tall enough to keep your lower face covered if you needed to.
