Introducing the first pattern of the Solo Skeins Collection - the Marcato Bandana! This collection is designed to use up the single fingering/sock or DK skeins in your stash. Each design will be written for both weights and use no more than 400 (fingering/sock) or 231 (DK) yards of yarn. **This specific pattern contains 4 pattern versions - fingering weight head scarf, fingering weight neck scarf, DK weight head scarf, and DK weight neck scarf.**
Pattern Inspiration:
The Marcato Bandana was named for the musical articulation “marcato” which means to play a note with a strong accent and short duration. The shape of the musical marking is triangular, like this bandana, and I think the design is a perfect accent to any outfit, while being quick to work up.
Basic Information:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Yarn: Fingering/sock (weight 1) or DK (weight 3). Approximately 150/400 (fingering) or 120/230 (DK) yards. I used a variety of both sock and DK weight yarns for my samples, details on page 10.
Hook: 3.75mm (fingering) or 5mm (DK), or size needed to meet gauge.
Finished size, after blocking: Head scarf - 20” wide, 8” deep, ties 9.5” long. Neck scarf - 34” wide, 13.5” deep.
Gauge: Before blocking, the first 8 rows of your project should measure approximately: fingering - 4.25” wide, 2.25” deep, DK - 6” wide, 2.75” deep.
The size of the pattern is easily adjustable - feel free to add or omit repeats! The edging will work as long as you end on a repeat of row 6 or row 8. Obviously, yardage requirements will vary if sizing is changed. Many of my testers made smaller ones for their pets!
I blocked my bandana fairly aggressively to achieve the desired drape and finished dimensions. The fabric will relax and stretch a lot with wet blocking!
