Safe Place Socks (DK)

The Safe Place socks were originially inspired by the Mamaw’s House Collection. While dreaming up and testing colorways, I thought about everywhere I feel safe. I wanted to create a pattern based off of the sock recipe I use for my current safe place: my husband William. As much as I love the orginial, it was time to include my newest sock obsession--DK weight socks. Pattern Summary: The Safe Place Socks is an adventurous beginner top down sock pattern featuring a mock cable, wedge toes, and a shadow wrap heel. This pattern includes instructions for the mock cable stitch pattern, shadow wrap heel pattern, and afterthought heel pattern. Video links are provided for some techniques. Materials Approx. 130 (157, 230, 260, 300)* yds of DK (or double for fingering) weight yarn for mc Approx. 55 (70, 79, 87, 100)* yds of DK (or double for fingering) weight yarn for cc Sample 1: CC: February Fiber Co Party DK in Holly Dolly Christmas Tonals Sample 2: MC: February Fiber Co Fancy Sock in Dad’s Jeans, CC: February Fiber Co Fancy Sock in Generations and You Belong US 3 - 3.25 mm knitting needles - your choice of cable length/DPN's I prefer 9 inch circulars so that is how the pattern is written. I use a 32 inch cable to complete the toe and heel Stitch markers (1 for BOR, 1 for separating front and back, 1 for separating the mock cable pattern from the rest of the foot, and at least 1 for marking afterthought heel). Scissors, measuring tape, tapestry needle * Yarn estimates include 10% extra Gauge 22 sts x 32 rounds in stockinette = 4" x 4" Sizing To determine your size, measure around the widest part of your foot (for most people this is the ball of their foot). This measurement will correspond with one of the sizes. The length is customizable while you are knitting the foot. Sizes are written according to The Craft Yarn Council Standards. XS (6"), S (7"), M (8"), L (9"), XL (10") Notes Read prior to knitting This pattern is written for 9" circular needles. There are two heel options for offered in this pattern.The pattern instructions include directions for both. There are slightly different directions for left and right socks. The mock cable is made to run up the inside of both feet. Please pay attention to which set of directions you are working. Before you begin, decide how long you would like your leg. I have noted my preference for shorties, kids, and mid-calf, but yours may be different. This will also affect how long you make your ribbing.
