Totnes Sweater is a cosy oversized sweater, worked from the top down in Reverse Half Fisherman’s rib stitch. A saddle shoulder construction paired with short rows creates a modern shape with excellent fit and drape. First the left and right saddle shoulders are worked and the stitches put on hold to allow for a seamless transition into the front and back of the sweater. Stitches are picked up along the back edge of the shoulders to work back and forth with shortrow shaping. Stitches are then picked up along the left and right fronts and worked back and forth whilst shaping the neckline with short-row shaping and increases before joining. The front is then joined to the back at the underarms and worked in the round until the desired length is achieved. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the armhole to work in the round with decreases to taper the sleeves. All edges are worked in a rib and bound off using the Italian Bind-off technique. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neck edge to work the final ribbing. Nb) Please note that 32 rows in Reverse Half Fisherman’s rib stitch are counted as 16 knit stitches. It can be easier to count your stitches on the wrong side of your work when working this stitch. Take care not to overstretch your garment whilst it is wet as this can cause the Reverse Half Fisherman’s rib stitch to grow irreversibly; the growth amount may vary depending on the yarn used.
