Reforged Cardigan

The inspiration for this cardigan comes from the cardigans my mother wore when I was a child, pieces that symbolized comfort, dependability, and quiet care. This design takes that familiar foundation and reforges it through growth and change. It keeps the warmth and softness of those memories, but reshapes them to reflect who I am now. What was once simply inherited comfort is transformed into something intentional, resilient, and new. This pattern is written in English using U.S. crochet terms. Schematic on page 5. Sample worn is size 3XL. Sizes XS - 4XL Hook Size 3.75mm Lace weight yarn makes this a nice, light-weight cardigan. Heavier weight yarn would require gauge adjustment. Cardigan is worked top down, arm holes are shaped as the yoke is worked, the back and fronts join 1" under the arm and the lower body is worked back and forth, seamlessly. Then the direction of the work shifts; the band panels are created, a border row around the outside is completed, then the sleeves are attached. It is then blocked, stretching the sleeves and panels to reveal the lace pattern. The initial yoke is a wide, shallow panel and does not represent the finished bust circumference. The stitch counts in the yoke establish shoulder width and drape rather than bust size. Sleeves are intentionally worked to the wearer’s upper arm measurement. Because upper arm circumference varies widely within sizes, stitch counts are not fixed; crocheters should ensure the armhole comfortably fits before proceeding.
