The Barista Vest is a textured vest with buttons, designed to be worn open or closed. The fit is intended to have a small amount of positive ease. The vest is worked bottom-up, allowing you to easily adjust the length to suit your body. SIZES AND MEASUREMENTS: ----------------------- Sizes: (1|2|3|4|5|6) **Finished garment measurements:** bust circumference: (84|97|104|111|117|131) cm length from the back collar to hem: Standard/Sample is 50 cm * armhole depth: Standard/Sample is 23 cm * * Note: The pattern includes instructions on how to lengthen or shorten the body or the armhole depth to best fit your body measurements. **Ease and size choosing:** The vest is designed with 0-14cm of positive ease at the bust or your widest part. Therefore, the sizes (1|2|3|4|5|6) should fit actual bust circumf. of about (up to 84|85-97|98-104|105-111|112-117|118-131) cm, respectively. Sizes 2 and 6 have a comparatively wider range of ease than the other sizes. The sample shown in the photos is a size 3 – model has a bust circumference of 104 cm. If you are between two sizes, I would recommend sizing up. GAUGE AND YARN: --------------- **Gauge after blocking:** Work the following pattern on 3.5 mm needles. Three repeats of the pattern sequence should measure 10 cm (see sketch below) and therefore give a gauge of 24 sts per 10 cm. Row gauge is not important, as the pattern instructs you to knit a certain number of centimeters rather than rows. Do not worry if the cast-on edge looks wavy due to the stitch pattern. **Gauge pattern:** CO 35 sts,, Set up row 1 (WS): purl all sts Row 2 (RS): k1, sk, *k2, m1R, k1, m1L, k2, cdd*, Repeat ** until 8 sts remain, k2, m1R, k1, m1L, k2, k2tog, k1 Row 3 (WS): purl all sts Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you got a proper gauge swatch. **Yarn:** Recommendation: It's essential to select a yarn with good stitch definition that holds its shape well. I recommend avoiding pure cotton, blown yarns, or alpaca. A woolen and spun yarn would be ideal. Sample yarn: The grey sample shown in the photos in the pattern is made with: Schafwolle Höfer, 100% Pure Wool, 2-ply, 225m per 100g. Testers used the following yarn alternatives: Drops Daisy, 100% wool, 110m per 50g Plymouth Galway Sport, 100% wool, 138m per 50g Novita Nalle, 75% wool 25%polyamide, 260m per 100g **Yarn amount for sizes (1|2|3|4|5|6):** (3|4|4|4|4|5) skeins (225m per 100g) or approx. (700|810|850|880|910|1020)m Note: The given yarn amount refers to the body length suggested above. If you knit a longer body or deeper armholes, you will need more yarn. NEEDLES AND TOOLS: ------------------ Body: 3,5mm | 80-100cm | circular needle Ribbing: 2,5mm | 80 – 100cm | circular needle for the hem 2,5mm | 40 – 60cm | circular needle for the neck and armholes Optional: A double pointed needle for the shoulder seems and button bands Tools: tapestry needle, stitch holder tube or some scrap yarn, scissors Buttons: 6 Butttons (or the amount you prefer on your vest). CONSTRUCTION OVERVIEW: ---------------------- The vest is worked bottom-up. First, stitches are cast on provisionally. You work the body until you reach the underarm. After shaping decreases at the underarm, you work the left front, right front and back separately and join them at the shoulders. You then pick up the stitches from the provisional cast-on, increase slightly, and work the hem. After an intermediate wet block, you work the button band as well as the finishes at the neck and armholes.
