Aare Shawl

Aare river begins its journey high in the Swiss Alps and gains strength through as it flows through gorges and valleys. It meets and greets numerous lakes, where it slows, softens and deepens. It sees life unfolding around it as it calmly flows through Bern. The mighty Alps are a quiet witness to Aare’s journey. I tried to mirror this beautiful co-existence in Aare Shawl. The beautiful lace of Aare Shawl denotes the river’s fluidity, while the structured cables mirror the stability and the quiet endurance of the mountains. Aare Shawl carries even more meaning as it is knit using hand-dyed yarn from a Swiss yarnie. Aare Shawl is a reminder that beauty emerges when strength meets grace, movement meets stability. Aare Shawl is not just symbolic, but very wearable. The gentle crescent shape is easy to drape and style. Aare Shawl is worked from one end to the other, starting with just a few stitches and gradually increasing to make the shawl wider. After working a plain repeat of the lace pattern, the decreases are worked to taper down the shawl, ending with a few stitches for cast-off. * Aare Shawl is designed using fingering weight yarn, but can be striking in laceweight, sportweight and DK yarn.
