It is knitted holding three strands together to create a marled effect, but it can also be knitted in a single color. Stitches are cast on using an Italian cast-on, and bound off using an Italian bind-off. Afterwards, stitches are picked up in two of the corners, diagonally opposite each other, to create the ties.
