Dragon Princess

**These socks are being released as the Round 1 Bonus Pattern for Sock Madness 20 and will be available for those outside the competition after the competition completes.** Dragon scale inspired socks with a wing ankle detail and princess sole. Instructions and charts are included. These Socks are worked Toe Up, inside out. Having the purl side on the outside allows for a “princess sole” where the knit stitches are softer on the skin. The Winged Heel can be done either standard knitting in a single color or intarsia in two contrasting colors. The sock is finished with a ribbed cuff and picot bind off. Self-striping yarns with sharp color changes are not recommended. Right side (RS) and wrong side (WS): socks are worked inside out. The WS of the work will be the public side of the sock after completion, and is predominantly made of purl stitches. The RS of the work will be the private side of the sock after completion, and is predominantly made of knit stitches. **Yarn:** Standard socks – 80-100 g fingering weight yarn. Grey shortie socks were tested in Cascade Heritage Sock. Solid, lightly variegated, or gradient yarns work best. Intarsia heel – 20 g fingering weight in different color. Pattern also includes directions for where to change colors for a contrast cuff. Two at a time from inside and outside of same skein is not recommended for an instarsia sock. **Needles:** Size US 1 (2.25 mm) needles for foot. Larger/smaller may be used for fit. Gauge was 42 stitches/48 rows per 4 inch/10 cm using 2.25 mm needles in texture pattern. *Important note for magic loop technique: the beginning of round (BOR) and half way point will occasionally shift and stitches before and after these points will be worked together.* Recommended tools: Removable BOR marker, second removable stitch marker (SM). **Sizes:** S(M,L) – 60(66,72) stitches at leg. Designed for a size M to fit approximately 8.5 inch (22 cm) foot circumference. Texture pattern results in a sock that is slightly smaller than one knit on same size needles with same stitch count in plain stockinette. Calf size adjustment is only recommended through changing needle sizes due to texture stitch.
