Silchester Hat

This hat is striped both vertically and horizontally, at the same time! This clever effect moves around the hat in a spiral. Although it may look complicated, it only uses one colour at a time, and the pattern is achieved just with slipped stitches. There are a couple of slightly unusual manoeuvres, which are needed to keep the stripes in line, but they are all fully explained.
