**NOT A TRADITIONAL PATTERN**
Designed to enjoy the colour magic of self-striping yarn without managing multiple strands, this fitted top-down Henley balances structure with ease.
Self-striping yarn was introduced after shoulder short rows, creating a circular-yoke visual effect on a set-in sleeve structure
**Construction**
This is a **Design Journal** piece rather than a traditional knitting pattern. It documents construction choices, fit decisions, and the small structural adjustments that shaped the finished garment.
It is written for knitters already familiar with the [Tailored Sweater Method][1] — those comfortable working from measurements, shaping logic, and proportional reasoning rather than step-by-step instructions. If you are used to building garments from your own gauge and body measurements, this journal will feel intuitive.
The sweater finished at a total garment weight of 305 grams — light enough to layer comfortably, yet substantial enough to feel composed on the body.
Designed for a close but comfortable fit, the silhouette follows the natural lines of the torso without clinging. The slight waist shaping creates gentle definition, while the extended back hem adds balance and coverage. The sleeves taper subtly toward the wrist, maintaining proportion without feeling narrow. Overall, the fit is tidy, structured, and intentionally streamlined rather than oversized.
The neckline is worked in a Henley style, with eyelets on both sides and an I-cord threaded through for fastening. The collar itself is worked in double knitting, giving it quiet structure and a clean finish against the neck.
The hem is double knit, creating a stable edge that balances the patterned upper section and adds architectural firmness at the base.
Sleeves are knit in the round with a gentle taper toward the wrist. The underarm seam length measures 2 inches / 5.1 cm, offering enough depth for movement without excess fabric.
The cuffs are designed to roll naturally back to the final purl row — an edge that feels relaxed and intentional rather than tightly bound.
**Additional Design Features**
* Subtle structural details run throughout the garment:
* Slipped stitch faux seams at the shoulders, sides, and underarm create quiet vertical definition.
* A centre front slipped stitch column anchors the design visually.
* The back is extended by 3 cm using short rows, providing a slightly longer back hem for balance and wearability.
**Gauge**
6.5 sts per inch; 10 rows per inch
(≈ 26 sts × 40 rows per 10 cm)
**Needles and Tools**

* I-cord made using an i-cord knitting machine
