Nkyinkyim (N-chim-chim) means Zigzag and in traditional Kente designs it is a symbol of life not being a straight path. I loved the visual it provides to garments and thus the Nkyinkyim sweater was born! The Nkyinkyim (ZigZag) Sweater is an all over colourwork raglan designed with 10cm -15cm of positive ease, to give a slightly relaxed fit. The pattern begins at the neckline with ribbing for the collar. The colourwork chart and raglan increases are then worked until you have finished the yoke of the sweater. Next the sleeves are put on hold and the body is worked using the same pattern repeat. Work the remainder of the body of the sweater, finishing with a 2x2 ribbed split hem, to add length to the back of the sweater. The body is then finished with a 2x2 ribbed tubular bind off. Lastly, pick up the sleeve stitches and work the sleeves in pattern, with regular decreasing, until wrist length. Then start the 2x2 ribbed cuff, finishing the sleeves with a 2x2 tubular bind off. Difficulty: Intermediate Sizes: 1(2,3,4,5)[6,7,8,9] Finished Bust sizes in cm & inches: 88.5 (95, 108.5, 115, 128.5)[135, 148.5, 155, 168.5]cm 35.5 (38, 43.5, 46, 51.5)[54, 59.5, 62, 67.5]in Finished Upper Arm Circumference : 31 (31, 34, 37.5, 37.5)[44, 51, 54, 57.5]cm 12.5 (12.5, 13.5, 15, 15)[17.5, 20.5, 21.5, 23]in Armhole Depth 24 (25, 25.5, 27.5, 29)[32, 33, 33, 34]cm 9.5 (10, 10.25, 11, 11.5)[12.75, 13.25, 13.25, 13.5]in Full Garment Length (Back) 53.5 (54.5, 55, 57, 57)[60, 61, 61,62]cm 21.5 (21.75, 22, 22.75, 22.75)[24, 24.5, 24.5, 24.75]in Ease: This pattern has been graded with 10cm -15cm of positive ease. I would recommend picking the finished size which is 15cm larger than your bust measurement. If you would like a more ease, I would recommend sizing up once more. Gauge: 24 stitches, 24 rounds per 10cm/4inches in the stranded colourwork pattern (after being blocked) Yarn requirements in meters All quantities below are approximate and based on: meeting gauge, doing a swatch and a small margin for different knitting styles.
