The back is worked first, followed by the shoulders. Once the back and fronts are joined, they are knitted together flat and finished with a 1x1 rib hem. The sleeves are then worked in the round. Next, stitches are picked up along the front edges to create plackets, which are worked in 1x1 rib, and then, the stitches are picked up along the neckline to make the neckband, also in a 1x1 rib. Finally, toggle buttons are sewn on after the cardigan is finished. Two strands of fingering-weight yarn are held together throughout the whole pattern. If you wish to use DK-weight yarn, use half of the suggested meterage/ yardage, and work with a single strand wherever the pattern specifies holding two strands together. **NEEDLES** 4 mm (US6) circular needles, at least 80 cm/ 32" for the body. 4 mm (US6) DPNs, small circumference or magic loop needles for the sleeves. 3.5 mm (US4) circular needles, at least 80 cm/ 32" for the hem. 3.5 mm (US4) DPNs, small circumference or magic loop needles for sleeve cuffs. 3.5 mm (US4) circular needles 40–60 cm/ 16–24" for the neckband and plackets. **GAUGE** 21 sts and 29 rows/ rounds = 10 cm/ 4" in pattern on 4 mm (US6) needles, after blocking. 23 sts and 35 rounds = 10 cm/ 4" in 1x1 rib (k1, p1) on 3.5 mm (US4) needles, after blocking, without stretching. **NOTIONS** Stitch markers (at least 4 removable), stitch holders, 5 toggle buttons (30 mm), a tapestry needle, and scissors. **TECHNIQUES** Backward loop CO, decreases (CDD, k2tog, p2tog, psso), increases (m1l, m1lp, m1r, m1rp, yo), knitting flat, knitting in the round, long-tail CO, picking up stitches, slipping stitches, Tubular BO. *Sizes 8–10 haven't been tested, as I couldn’t find testers who could provide accurate feedback on fit.
