Gairloch Sweater is the oversized knit you reach for on those
days where you want pure comfort. The subtle texture, paired
with the colourwork, elevates the design while at the same
time creates a fun knitting experience. The sweater is designed
to have a slightly boxy length, however, as the sweater is
worked from the top down, it can be adjusted to suit your
preference.
First the back is worked back and forth with increases to shape
the shoulders. Stitches are then picked up along the back to
form each shoulder whilst shaping the neck. The shoulders are
then joined at the front of the neck and worked back and
forth; once complete, the front and back are joined, and
stitches cast on for the underarms. The body is then knit in the
round. Sleeves stitches are picked up around the armhole
opening, short rows are worked in a textured pattern for
shaping before working in the round with decreases. Finally,
stitches are picked up and knitted in rib along the neck edge.
All ribbing is bound off using the Italian bind-off technique.
The stranded colourwork is worked both back and forth and
in-the-round, depending on where you are in the pattern.

Nb) Your knitting tension may be different when working a stranded knitting pattern. It is therefore recommended to work a swatch so you can switch to a larger needle or smaller needle (typically +/- 0.5mm or +1/- mm) if required to maintain the pattern gauge. I personally go up +0.5mm when working with more than one colour.

350 (350, 400, 400, 400) (400, 450, 450, 450) 500, 500 g Alpaca Blow by Sysleriget (100 g = 300m) held together with 150 (150, 150, 150, 150) (150, 200, 200, 200) 200, 200 g Brushed Deluxe by Sysleriget (50g = 400m) for the main colour and 30 (35, 35, 35, 35) (35, 40, 40, 40) 45, 45 g Alpaca Blow by Sysleriget (100 g = 300m) held together with 10 (10, 15, 15, 15) (15, 15, 15, 15) 15, 15 g Brushed Deluxe by Sysleriget (50g = 400m) for the contrast colour.
Alternatively, you could use Isager Soft (50g = 125m) or Puno Fine (50g = 125m) as a substitute for the Alpaca Blow and any
laceweight yarn as a substitute for the Brushed Deluxe OR a single strand of Puno by Gepard Garn (50g = 110m).
If you choose to lengthen the sweater you may require more yarn.
