Birka Shawl

**This pattern will be released February 17th** This shawl pattern has been on my mind for a long time. I wanted to play with colours and I especially like the way the strips collaborate with the dots. By the way, Birka is a viking town and is often called the first town in Sweden. **Sizes:** This pattern comes in two sizes. You use the same pattern but change the yarn weight and needle size. **Measurements:** *Size 1:* Wingspan 165 cm / 65", depth 80 cm / 31.5" *Size 2:* Wingspan 173 cm / 68", depth 86 cm / 33.9" **Suggested yarn:** *Size 1:* MC: Finull from Rauma Garn 50g = 175m. Colour No 422 Mørk brun. CC: Dyed in the Wool from Spincycle Yarns 50 g = 186m. Colour Something Wicked *Size 2:* MC: Cumbria from The Fiber Co 100 g = 216 m. Colour CU230 Hollyberry CC: Dream State from Spincycle Yarns 50 g = 137 m. Colour Ghost Ranch *Unfortunately The Fiber Co is no longer producing yarn but you can use Heavy Merino from Knitting for Olive instead* **Yarn:** *Size 1:* MC: 160 g, CC: 100 g *Size 2:* MC: 214 g, CC: 171 g *You can easily adjust the size of your shawl due to how much yarn you have. For size 1 I knitted until my 2 skeins of CC ran out. In size 2 I had 2 skeins of MC and 3 skeins of CC and I knitted until I had enough of MC yarn to do the ribbing at the end. The numbers above is the exact amount of yarn I used.* **Suggested needles:** *Size 1:* 3.75 mm (US5) circular needle 75 cm / 30". *Size 2:* 5 mm (US8) circular needle 75 cm / 30" **Gauge:** *Size 1:* 22 sts x 36 rows = 10x10 cm / 4x4” *Size 2:* 18 sts x 28 rows = 10x10 cm / 4x4” in garter sts back and forth, blocked. **Notions:** Scissors and tapestry needle for weaving in ends. ~ This shawl has the shape of an asymmetrical triangle with I-cord edges. ~ You can easily modify the size of the shawl due to what you prefer or how much yarn you have. ~ The shawl will grow a lot with blocking **Techniques used:** Cast on Knit Purl Slip stitches with yarn in back Slip stitches with yarn in front Bind off
