2026 Winter Olympic Games Sweater

This is a commemorative 2026 USA Winter Games sweater. This was requested and since I have already done the math I thought I would share it with you all. Plus, its actually more affordable to make your own instead of buying it. This is not the exact Opening Ceremony sweater. There were a few issues that I had with the motifs from the original so I decided to change them. ALSO: I recognize that some people may want to avoid intarsia or might wish to wear something that isn't as in your face as this pattern and may want to skip the flag (front) and lettering (back). There is also the option to not do these or to do a color work lice pattern instead (also included in the pattern). Sizing: XS: 34" (86cm) S: 37" (93cm) M: 40" (101cm) L: 42" (106cm) XL: 45" (114cm) XXL: 48" (120cm) This is a bottom up sweater, starting with a twisted rib and moves almost immediately into stranded knitting. The body is knit as one whole cylinder and then cast off at the neck hole and shoulders. Once those are done, sleeves are cast on using your preferred provisional cast on and knit towards the shoulder. Working both increases and steek stitches at the same time. Once the sleeves are finished the sleeve steeks are measured, reinforced, cut, and attached. Once the sleeves are attached the steeks for the color bars are reinforced, cut, and then stitches are picked up along the whole length on both sides of the steek. These are worked back and forth from the provisional cast on to across the top of the shoulder to create on continuous color bars. These bars are then bound off along the whole length of the shoulder and sleeve via a 3 needle bindoff. The collar stitches are then picked up and knit in a twisted rib and can either be left as a mock turtle neck or turned into a folded over collar. Finish the cuffs and then add on the optional olympic rings via embroidery under the flag. Just remember: It only has to look great from 10ft away and if people are dissatisfied with your knitting then they aren't knit worthy.
