1940 Rosie the Riveter Beanie

During World War II in Nazi-occupied Norway, red knit hats— often made in traditional styles with pointed tops or small tassels—became symbols of cultural identity and quiet resistance. Their visibility and meaning grew strong enough that they were discouraged and, at times, restricted by occupying authorities. That history is part of why this design looks the way it does. I’ve been crocheting for over 20 years, and over that time I’ve created more than 50 crochet patterns that were never published. While I spent several years focused on my son’s health and his open-heart surgery, I never stopped creating — I just stepped back from sharing. Enjoy!
