The photo shows a double-sided hat which appears to be a k1p1 rib as it’s uniform on both sides. I will make much more nuanced notes later, but I think this should result in a pretty reasonable facsimile. On a personal note, I completely understand the desire to engage in politically motivated knits - we are fiber artists, it's often the first way we think of to respond to outside forces, and having projects like these on our needles helps to quell some of the helplessness in our hearts. But please remember, a hat is not a replacement for leaning into the REAL WORK of resistance. Knit away, but please also make sure you are engaging in other ways too. Let your hats be a way to keep your hands busy, don’t let them become an act of performative feel-good action. Many of you will recall the call-outs, from Black women in particular, around the pussy hat craze. If not, it’s worth reading up on some things that were said, excellent points were made many times over. Any search engine will help locate a few good examples. The current wave of protest hats is inspired by hats rumored to have been worn by Norwegians as an act of resistance in WWII, a knit accessory born out of action and rebellion. Let us follow THAT example, and wear these hats with fortitude and in solidarity as we take ACTION.
