**About the Design** This pattern is worked in overlay mosaic crochet using two contrasting colors referred to as Color A and Dark Color, allowing you to personalize your palette while maintaining clear visual definition. • Stitch Count: 230 stitches wide × 299 rows tall (including starting chain and border stitches) • Finished Size: approx. see table below at the section about the gauge. • Skill Level: Advanced or Confident Intermediate • Pattern Type: Large project, suitable as a throw, bed topper, or statement piece This is an immersive project designed for crocheters who enjoy watching a detailed image emerge row by row. ________________________________________ **Materials** • Yarn in two colors required: Color A: Light Color and Color B: Dark Color • Recommended yarn and hooksize: Worsted/Aran (Category 4) with hookzise 4.00. Always make a swatch to know wat your gauge is. • Additional Supplies: tapestry needle, scissors Exact yardage will depend on yarn brand and personal tension. ________________________________________ **Gauge** Gauge will affect final size and yarn usage. I advise you to make a swatch of at least 20x20 cm (6x6inch) so you know what you gauge is with the yarn you like to use. Then measure in the center of the swatch how many stitches there are in 10x10 cm (4x4 inch). This way you can also aim on the size of the blanket you like. If you like the project to be slightly bigger, you can choose a bigger hook size and or use heaver yarn. Your Gauge Stitches and rows = Estimated project size in cm and inch 20 x 22 = 116 x 136 cm. 46 x 54 inch. 18 x 20 = 128 x 150 cm. 51 x 60 inch. 16 x 18 = 145 x 166 cm. 58 x 66 inch. 14 x 16 = 165 x 187 cm. 66 x 75 inch. 12 x 14 = 193 x 214 cm. 77 x 85 inch. ________________________________________ **Yarn Requirements (Estimated – Conservative)** For the average gauge of 16x18. Projectsize 145 x 166.67 cm. / 58 x 66.67 inch., using a 4.0 mm hook: • Total yarn: approx. 2,350 – 2,550 meters (2,570 – 2,790 yards) DK / Light Worsted This conservative estimate is based on a total of 69,600 stitches, consisting of 41,614 single crochet (sc), 26,559 double crochet (dc), and 598 border stitches. Since double crochet stitches and overlay stitches use more yarn than single crochet, stitch type distribution has been taken into account. An additional allowance is included to reflect the increased yarn usage typical of overlay mosaic crochet. As a guideline, this equals approximately: • 12 – 13 skeins of 100 g DK / Light Worsted yarn (approx. 200 – 240 m / 220 – 260 yd per skein, depending on brand and fiber) Due to variations in individual tension, hook size, overlay frequency, and yarn characteristics, actual yarn usage may vary. For the most accurate results, creating and weighing a 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 inch) swatch using the chosen yarn and hook size is recommended. ________________________________________ **Abbreviations (US Terms)** ch Chain sc (blo) Single crochet in the back loop only dc (flo) Double crochet in the front loop two rows below st Stitch Overlay mosaic crochet uses only these basic stitches. All single crochets are worked in the back loop only; all double crochets are overlay stitches worked into the front loop of the stitch two rows below in the same color. ________________________________________ **How to Start** We begin with a foundation row (row 0) in the dark color: Begin with a foundation chain of 231 chains using the Color B dark color (228 pattern stitches + 2 border stitches + 1 turning chain), start the return row in the 2nd stitch. Work one row of single crochet back to the beginning before starting row 1 of the mosaic pattern. ________________________________________ **Finishing** To prevent unraveling, tie the yarn ends together in pairs on the right side of the work, I advise you to do so every now and then when working on your project. You may either weave in the ends or finish the piece with an envelope border to hide them. Blocking is recommended for a smooth, even finish and improved stitch definition ________________________________________ **Designer’s Note** Thank you for choosing this pattern. This design is created to be both visually striking and deeply engaging to work on. I hope the journey of creating this design brings you inspiration, focus, and immense satisfaction as the image reveals itself through each row. — Designed by Suzanne van Kooten ________________________________________ **Copyright Notice** This pattern, including all written instructions, charts, and layout, is the original work of Suzanne van Kooten and is fully protected by copyright.
