Freckled Mittens

These beautiful mittens feature the look of stranded colorwork without having to carry multiple strands at once. Only one color is used per round! All thanks to the slip stitch technique that lends itself to both beauty and strength. You can think of it like mosaic knitting, but you don’t have to work each row twice. It’s the best of both worlds! This color pattern is not only simple but adds structure, strength, and warmth to the mitten. The mitten is sized to fit snugly around the hand for a comfortable and practical fit, without being too baggy. The optional palm opening allows for easy use of your fingers when needed without removing the whole mitten. (Note: size XXS doesn't include a palm divide.) **Sizes available range from child's to giant man hands!** Sizes: Yarn needed: Finished size: Size XXS 140y/128m 5.5”/14cm Size XS 170y/156m 6.25”/16cm Size S 195y/178m 7”/17.75cm Size M 224y/205m 7.75”/19.66cm Size L 252y/232m 8.5”/21.5cm Size XL 280y/256m 9.25”/23.5cm Size XXL 309y/283m 10”/25.5cm Budget about 25% of your total yarn length for your contrasting color(s). **Colors:** The pattern is written for a main color (MC) and a contrasting color (CC). You can change contrast colors as often or as little as you like. The sample was knit with a main color (purple) and five contrasting colors, with the contrasting colors changing every 8 rows. **Yarn choices:** This is a great pattern for scraps! When you’re diving in your yarn library, keep in mind that the mittens will wear best if the yarns are all a similar fiber content. To hold its shape and wear well, I recommend wool or wool blends of similar preparation. Cotton, alpaca, and other single fibers (not blended with wool) may not hold their shape well. DK weight yarn is ideal. But you might consider holding fingering weight yarn double to achieve a DK weight yarn. Video tutorial included! (Please note, size XXL has not been tested.
