**About**
The Pippa Patch Scarf is a cozy, joyful piece that celebrates color, texture and yarn scraps. It is worked from one end toward the center and then perpendicularly to create changing stripes. The pattern is designed to use
advent calendars, mini skeins, or your favorite leftover yarns. The ruffled edge adds a charming finishing touch.
**Construction**
The scarf is worked in garter stitch to create a squishy texture that is easy to knit. The scarf can be made in **any size**, allowing you to create your perfect version — from a petite neck wrap to a cozy statement piece. You can also design your own stripe layout, making it a wonderful canvas for playful color combinations.
A knitting calculator helps you plan your project effortlessly:
If you have an unlimited amount of yarn but a specific size in mind, the calculator determines the number of stripes and increases needed to match your desired measurements as closely as possible.
If you’re working with a limited amount of yarn, you can use the calculator in reverse — simply enter your yarn quantities and preferred shape (short & wide, triangular, etc), and it will calculate the ideal finished dimensions for you.
No matter which calculator mode you choose, the construction begins by casting on and working increases to reach the desired width. We will then work perpendicularly, knitting with the live stitches on the needles whilst increasing to create a matching length to the first section.
An applied I-cord is added along the long straight edge in a contrasting color for a polished finish. For the ruffle version, a lateral braid is worked with a crochet hook for a touch of texture. Stitches are picked up along the edge and followed by rapid increases to form the soft ruffle border.
**Skill**
Difficulty 3/5. Unique construction, increases, I-cord, lateral braid with a crochet hook.
The pattern has a video tutorial showing the entire knitting process.
**Gauge**
The pattern is designed to work for any gauge. The given gauge is for garter stitch. We recommend the following needle sizes:
**Needles & Hook**
* Needles between 3-5 mm | US 2.5-8 with a cable length of 80 cm | 32 inch.
* Needles that are 0.5 mm | 1 US size smaller for the I-cord edge.
* A crochet hook with the same size as your chosen knitting needles.
**Measurements**
The pattern is designed for you to create your own desired measurements using the knitting calculator, or to use the reverse calculator and use up scrap yarn. *Note that it's only possible to make a triangle or wide scarf and not a narrow scarf!*
There are 5 approx. sizes given in the pattern for those that don't want to choose their own measurements:
*XS: 60 cm long x 15 cm wide | 23.5" long x 6" wide
S: 90 cm long x 22 cm wide | 35.5" long x 8.75" wide

L: 150 cm long x 40 cm wide | 59" long x 15.75" wide
XL: 180 cm long x 50 cm wide | 70.75" long x 19.75" wide*
