In Greek mythology, Daphne was a graceful nymph celebrated for her beauty and her profound connection to the natural world. When pursued by the god Apollo, she was transformed into a laurel tree by her father, the river god Peneus — a metamorphosis that came to embody resilience, purity, and harmony with nature. The laurel itself became an enduring symbol of victory and honor, giving Daphne’s story a timeless and inspiring resonance. The Daphne Beanie features the same elegant cable motif found in the matching Daphne Pullover. The pattern is provided both as a chart and as written, row-by-row instructions. The hat is worked from the brim upward, beginning with a tubular cast-on for a refined, stretchy edge, with an alternative long-tail cast-on option included. The brim can be made in two styles — a simple, straight version or a cozy folded one — allowing you to customize the look and feel of your finished beanie. To showcase the cables, unicolor or slightly tonal colorways work best, though tweeds or lightly speckled yarns can also add subtle texture. The beanie can be knit in DK weight yarn or with one strand of fingering weight held together with silk mohair or suri alpaca for a soft haloed effect. Size One size, women’s medium For head circumferences: 53-57 / 20.75-22.5 inches Finished circumference: 48 cm / 19 inches Total length (with short brim): 25 cm / 10 inches Total length (with long brim unfolded): 35 cm / 13.75 inches Yarn Note: The hat uses a strand of fingering weight yarn held together with a strand of lace weight yarn, but they can be substituted for a single strand of DK weight yarn. If you wish to work a DK weight version, omit all the instructions where it says “hold the yarns together” and follow only the yarn amount requirements for the fingering weight yarn. Short brim version: 220 m / 240 yards of fingering weight yarn and 220 m / 240 yards lace weight silk mohair Long brim version: 300 m / 330 yards of fingering weight yarn and 300 m / 330 yards lace weight silk mohair Pink sample: 1 skein of The Wandering Flock Fingering Singles (100 % merino; 365 m / 400 yards per 100 g), shown in colorway Flamingo and 1 skein of The Wandering Flock Mohair lace (80% mohair, 20% silk; 393 m / 430 yards per 50 g), shown in colorway Flamingo.
