It features a wide cuff for extra warmth over the ears and it comes in three sizes, making it a great fit for kids, teens, and adults alike. It’s the perfect everyday hat: simple, timeless, and easy to style. Men and even the pickiest teens tend to love it because it’s clean, cozy, and not fussy. Knitters love it too because it’s a quick, satisfying knit and makes a thoughtful, practical gift. This is also a wonderful project for those precious hand-dyed skeins in your stash. The simple rib texture and beautifully shaped crown highlight both the color and the texture of your yarn in a subtle, elegant way. The hat is knit in the round from brim to crown, beginning with a 3-inch (7.5 cm) ribbed cuff. The crown is shaped with four darts that swirl into a standout feature (definitely the star of this design, full of movement and personality). Although this is a beginner-friendly pattern, there are a few basic techniques you should be comfortable with before starting: - Casting on and joining to knit in the round - Working in small circumferences (using DPNs, two circulars, or magic loop) - Knitting and purling - Decreasing (knit two or three stitches together) ************************************************************* **SIZES** **Child (Adult Small, Adult Large)** Finished circumference: - 15 (18, 20.5) inches / 38.5 (46, 52) cm Fits head approximately: - 16-18 (19-21, 22-24) inches / 41-46 (48-53, 56-61) cm Height: adjustable. Sample measures 11 inches / 28 cm (size Adult Small) **YARN** Sport weight yarn, approximate amount: - 210 (230, 250) yards / 192 (210, 230) meters Sample shown in Madelinetosh Pashmina (75% Merino, 15% Silk, 10% Cashmere goat; 371 yds (339 m) / 113 g). Color: ‘Stephen loves tosh’. 1 skein for all sizes. **NEEDLES** US 2 – 2.75 mm knitting needles suitable for working small circumferences in the round. Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking. **NOTIONS** 4 stitch markers (one of them in a contrasting color for the beginning of round) and tapestry needle. **GAUGE** 25 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] over 2x2 ribbing pattern in the round on US 2 (2.75 mm) needles after blocking. Before you measure, please take the time to wash and block your swatch in the same manner that you will wash and block your hat.
