**Use the code FALL26 for a 10% discount (valid until October 16, 2026).
Or save 20% if you buy any 2 or more patterns at the same time with the code WARM20 (ebooks are not included).** ------------------------------------------------------------ *Random Scrappy Stripes are a stockinette stitch and DK weight yarn version of* [**Scrappy Stripes**](/patterns/library/scrappy-stripes-5) *with randomly worked stripes.* *The fingerless mittens are knit starting from the thumb, worked to the desired length and shaped with short rows at its base. The hand is worked around the thumb, forming a square. When it reaches the desired width, the square is folded and its two sides are joined on the bind-off row.* *The mittens are a perfect way to use small amounts of yarn left over from other projects: I made mine with tiny balls of Miss Babs Yowza (in Honey Cake, Oyster, Coal, French Marigold, Biker Chick).* **Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4)** Finished hand circumference: 14 (16, 18, 20) cm/5.5 (6.5, 7.25, 8) in. Finished length: 19.5 (21.5, 23.5, 25.5) cm/7.75 (8.5, 9.5, 10.25) in. Shown in size 3 with no ease. Choose the size that is the closest to your hand circumference. **Yarn** Total of 170 (180, 200, 220) m/190 (200, 220, 240) yds of DK weight yarn - you can use small amounts of yarn in several colourways left over from other projects. For size 3, I used Miss Babs Yowza (100% superwash merino wool, 512 m/560 yds per 227 g) in the following colourways: C1 (thumb): Coal - approx. 30 m/33 yds C2 (cuff rib): Oyster - approx. 40 m/44 yds C3 (hand rib): French Marigold: approx. 10 m/11 yds CH (total yarns used for hand): Honey Cake, Oyster, Coal, French Marigold, Biker Chick, Pewter - approx. 110 m/121 yds total *Note: Alternatively, you can use one variegated colourway as CH.* **Gauge** (blocked) Stockinette stitch: 22 sts and 30 rnds = 10 cm/4 in, with larger needle(s). 1x1 rib stitch: 24 sts and 36 rnds = 10 cm/4 in, with smaller needle(s). **Needles and Notions** 4 mm/US 6 needle(s) in preferred style for knitting small circumferences, or size to obtain stockinette stitch gauge (larger needles) 3.5 mm/US 4 needle(s) in preferred style for knitting small circumferences, or size to obtain 1x1 rib gauge (smaller needles) 4 stitch markers Tapestry needle Waste yarn **Skills Needed** Long tail cast-on, knit, purl, picking up sts, increases (kfb), decreases, German short rows.
