Elephant

The Forever Hug Elephant was the second plush created for this collection and quickly became one of my most sentimental designs. Its oversized floppy ears, softly shaped body, rounded feet, and gentle trunk were designed to capture the calm and thoughtful nature of an elephant while keeping the finished plush warm, comforting, and full of character. FINISHED SIZE Approximately 9–11 inches (23–28 cm) tall. The finished size may vary depending on yarn choice, hook size, crochet tension, and stuffing. CONSTRUCTION The elephant is crocheted in separate pieces and sewn together. The head, body, arms, legs, ears, trunk, and tusks are worked separately. The pieces are crocheted in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. The facial details are crocheted using thread and smaller hooks. YARN AND HOOKS - #4 worsted-weight yarn in two colours - Crochet thread for the facial details - 4.0 mm crochet hook for the main pieces - 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm crochet hooks for the facial details Suggested yarns are listed in the pattern details above. YARDAGE Approximately 220–280 yards (201–256 metres) total, plus small amounts of crochet thread for the facial details. MATERIALS - Polyester fiberfill stuffing - Yarn or darning needle - Stitch markers - Pins - Scissors GAUGE Exact gauge is not critical for this project. Use a hook size that creates a firm, even fabric with no visible gaps so the stuffing does not show through.
