The Loon Sweater

The Loon Sweater was originally created as a Christmas present for my dad, and was inspired by the many summers we’ve spent listening to the loons call each other across the lake. **Construction:** This sweater is a simple drop shoulder design, and is knit from the top down. It is designed to have 20-30cm / 8-12” of positive ease. You’ll begin by working the back yoke flat, shaping the shoulders with German short rows, and working in stockinette before introducing the loon mural using stranded colourwork (also worked flat). The front yoke is then worked flat, starting with picking up and knitting each shoulder separately while shaping the neckline. The front shoulders are then joined to complete the neck opening, and the loon mural continues across the front in stranded colourwork (worked flat). Once the front and back yokes are complete, they are joined to form the body, which is knit in the round.
