**Visit our ‘Knit Tutorials’ page for helpful tips and techniques for knitting [here][1]. Learn more about the Cocoknits Method [here][2]. Check out our helpful Tools & Accessories [here][3]!** Classic, French-inspired stripes lend **Madeleine** a sporty feel. The gentle A-line shape and slender sleeve make it easy to throw on over lightweight dresses and shirts when you need a bit of warmth. Snaps replace the usual buttons up the front for a cleaner finish, but you could, of course, add buttonholes and buttons. As with most Cocoknits patterns, it's pretty straightforward to knit Madeleine at an alternate gauge - using either a thicker or thinner yarn. See Materials and Gauge for more details. ______________________________________________ **BEFORE PURCHASING THIS PATTERN** This sweater is worked using the **[Cocoknits Method][4]**, a commonsense system for knitting seamless, tailored sweaters from the top down. The Cocoknits Method is explained in detail in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop by Julie Weisenberger. All of the page numbers in this pattern refer to the pages in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, where the techniques are explained in detail. Purchase *[Cocoknits Sweater Workshop][5]* or visit your local yarn shop. ______________________________________________ **Sizes** (1, 2, 3)(4, 5, 6)(7, 8, 9) *Finished Measurements* Finished Bust: (34.25, 37.75, 42.25)(45.75, 50.25, 53.75)(57.5, 61, 64.5)" / (87, 96, 107.5)(116.5, 127.5, 136.5)(146, 155, 164) cm, buttoned Finished Length: (18.25, 19, 19.75)(21.25, 21.75, 22)(22.5, 23, 23.5)" / (46, 48, 50.5)(53.5, 55, 56)(57, 58.5, 60) cm **Materials** *Yarn* (385, 440, 495)(570, 635, 690)(730, 775, 835) yds / (350, 400, 455)(520, 580, 635)(665, 710, 760) m of dk - worsted weight yarn that gets gauge in each of two colors. **or** (770, 875, 985)(1135, 1265, 1380)(1460, 1550, 1665) yds / (700, 800, 905)(1040, 1160, 1265)(1330, 1415, 1520) m of dk - worsted weight yarn that gets gauge in one color if omitting stripes. *Not Shown:* Kelbourne Woolens Germantown 100% North American Wool; 220 yds / 201 m per 3.5 oz / 100 g skein Color A: (2, 2, 3)(3, 3, 4)( 4, 4, 4) skeins in 005 Black Color B: (2, 2, 3)(3, 3, 4)( 4, 4, 4) skeins in 105 Natural *Shown in:* NOTE: The Everyday model was knit at a different gauge than the pattern: 16 sts and 24 rows = 4" / 10 cm square in St st on largest needles. As noted above, Julie applied the method given in her tutorial “[How to Modify Gauge][6]” at cocoknits.com to use these instructions to knit a Madeleine at her chosen gauge. Following the directions as given with a gauge of 18 sts per 4" / 10 cm will produce sweaters with the measurements given under Finished Measurements. *Notes on Working Stripes* Change yarns every 4 rows throughout. Don’t cut the yarn between stripes; instead secure the 2 colors together at the beginning of the color-change row by bringing the new color over the old color ERRATA This pattern has errata.
