Autumn Mitts

*If you purchase 3 patterns from my Ravelry Store at the same time (add them all to your cart before you check out), the least expensive one will be free.* A great stash-buster, these cosy fair isle mitts call for fingering weight yarns in 9 colours, although they could easily be knit with fewer colours (or even just two). The front of the hand features a snowflake motif framed with rows of dots; the palm has an easily memorized filler stitch pattern. There is a left and right mitt, with a thumb gusset. The mitts are seamless, knit bottom up in the round, using the stranded colourwork technique. One size to fit 7-7.5” around (18-19cm). Finished measurements: Length - 7” (18cm) Circumference - 7.5” (19cm) The pattern includes colour and grayscale charts. **Yarns** Fingering weight yarns, suitable for stranded knitting. Sample mitts used JC Rennie’s Supersoft Lambswool 4ply, Jamieson and Smith 2ply Jumper-weight, Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift , and Kate Davies’ Milarrochy Tweed. • One main colour - at least 25g for the cuffs, tops and thumbs • Up to 140 yds (130 m) total, over eight shades for colourwork. **Colours and amounts used in sample mitts:** J&S 2ply Jumper Weight shade 1 - 2 yds Jamieson’s Spindrift shade Pacific - 2 yds J&S 2ply Jumper Weight shade 78 - 16 yds Milarrochy Tweed shade Gloamin - 12 yds Milarrochy Tweed shade Smirr - 12 yds Jamieson’s Spindrift shade Foxglove - 12 yds Jamieson’s Spindrift shade Moss - 16 yds Jamieson’s Spindrift shade Bracken - 32 yds JC Rennie’s Super Soft Lambswool shade Pineshadow - 32 yds **Needles and Notions** • 2.5 mm and 3 mm circular or double-pointed needles (US 2–3) * Stitch markers • Tapestry needle • Contrasting length of waste yarn for thumb gusset stitches **Gauge** 30 sts and 36 rnds = 4" (10cm) over stranded colourwork in the round using 3mm needles. Take time to check gauge and adjust needle size accordingly.
