Saoire Shawl

.................................. SAOIRE SHAWL .................................. Our memories of being on holiday are not limited to images, sounds, and scents. They can 
also be richly tactile. And it was this idea of textural nostalgia that I sought to capture 
with Saoire (pronounced 'seerah') - which means holidays, or vacation, in Irish. The idea came to me as I worked on the design on a camping trip in County Sligo. Feeling the textured motif with my fingers, I imagined wearing the shawl once I were back home and being transported to my little tent in the dunes, through the magic of touch and memory. A tactile snapshot of that indescribable west of Ireland summer holidays feeling, to bring comfort year round. In addition to written instructions, this pattern is fully charted, including the shaping sections. Instructions offer the options of a shawl, or a charming kerchief-hat. .................................. MATERIALS & INFORMATION Note this pattern works with any yarn and any gauge, and sizing can be easily adjusted. The info provided refers to the samples shown in the photos, but the pattern instructions explain how to use ANY yarn, and achieve custom measurements. SIZE 
shawl measurements: 150cm/ 60” x 50cm/ 20” (or customisable to any size) 
kerchief-hat measurements: 65cm/ 22” in circumference and 20cm/ 8” at longest point (or customisable to any size) YARN
 suitable for a wide range of yarn weights, including: fingering-sport weight yarn (300-400m per 100g) DK weight yarn (200m per 100g) 

YARN QUANTITIES
 fingering - sportweight yarns: up to 100g for kerchief-hat up to 200g for shawl
 DK weight yarns: up to 150g for kerchief-hat; up to 300g for shawl

 GAUGE fingering-sport weight yarn: 23 sts x 32 rows = 10cm x 10cm DK weight yarn: 17 sts x 24 rows = 10cm x 10cm
