Pipari top

Pipari means gingerbread in Finnish. In Finland, the traditional gingerbread cookie shape resembles a flower, so the wavy edge has become known as a gingerbread edge. The Pipari Top is knitted top down. First, the front and back pieces are worked separately, forming two hourglass‑shaped sections. These are then joined onto the same needle, after which the body is knitted in one piece. **YARN** Jalovilla Sorja (560 m / 100g, 613 yds / 3.53 oz, light fingering) 100% Finnish Wool *The gauge in the pattern is loose. The Jalovilla Sorja used in the pattern is single‑ply and airy, making it well suited for knitting with larger needles. Although the yarn is light fingering weight, we recommend replacing it with a fingering‑weight yarn if you are not using Sorja.* **NEEDLES** 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needle with 80–120 cm (32–47”) cable, depending on the size of the top, and two 3 mm (US 2.5) double‑pointed needles for the straps. **GAUGE** 19 sts and 31 rows = 10 cm (4”) in stockinette stitch after blocking.
