Knit this market bag with scraps or self-striping yarns to really bring out the chevron stitch pattern—and carry large things neatly with a pair of handles that slip through one another to fold the top closed. This string bag is knit loosely, to work like a stretchy net for produce, large light items, clothes, and so on. The yarns I used are fairly bulky for a net market bag, so this may not be obvious at first glance. This little bag is my favorite summer project so far—I hope you like it too! **Materials:** * 200-350 yds Valley Yarn 3/2 Cotton * 1 set of DPNs and one 16” circular needle in US9/5.5mm, or size needed for gauge * 2 DPNs (or straights, or a circular needle used to work flat) in US 5/3.75mm, or 3-4 sizes down from size needed for gauge * tapestry needle for weaving in ends * crochet hook sized to suit yarn (G/4.0mm or preference) * smooth, contrasting spare yarn for provisional cast-on * removable stitch markers **Gauge:** Strap gauge—smaller needles—is 10 sts and 16 rows over 2"/5cm of lightly blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Overall gauge—larger needles—is 18 sts and 20 rows over 4"/10cm.
