Bumbleberry Pie Shawl

The Bumbleberry Pie Shawl was inspired by some gorgeous berry-coloured yarn I happened upon many years ago at a local fleece festival. Bumbleberry Pie is a classic Canadian dessert, a concoction of any berry combination you might have on hand, possibly with some apple, pear or rhubarb tossed in as well. I began imagining the yarn stitched into bobbles for blueberries, blackberry stitches, and basket-weave stiches to invoke a lattice crust. So yup, I purchased the yarn because it reminded me of pie! The Bumbleberry Pie Shawl is a tip-to-tip construction trapezoid shape shawl, with several different textured stitch patterns and some fun striping sequences in the versions which use multiple colours. It starts and ends with 8 stitches on the needle. Instructions are provided for a single colour version, a three-colour fade, and a five-colour fade. Yardage and gauge are given in fingering, sport and dk versions. A comprehensive chart is provided outlining yardages for all colour combinations in all gauges, so essentially 9 possible versions! Sizes: Fingering weight: 65" long with a depth of 11". Sport weight: 79" long with a depth of 12.5". DK weight: 88" long with a depth of 13.5". Yarn Requirements: Green sample in fingering weight: 2 skeins of Hoko Hoko Fibre Co. Dottie Fingering, in Basil (light), with a 3.25mm/US 3 circular needle, 60cm/24". 3-colour fade in sport weight: Yarn Indulgences Zed Merino Sport/DK, one skein each of Snag, Denim and Blue Tang, with a 3.5mm/US 4 circular needle, 60cm/24". Please note, this yarn was from stash, and these exact colours may not still be available. 5-colour fade in DK weight: Rowan Felted Tweed, one skein each of 151 Bilberry, 208 Iotite, 183 Peony, 219 Heliotrope and 221 Candy Floss.
