Upland scarf

UPLAND scarf is a fun and easy knit that is all about playing with colours and fibers. I had so much fun picking out my own handspun for this project and I hope you will also enjoy combining different colours and yarns in this fun project. The scarf is knitted from tip to tip in garter stitch, making it a very relaxing knit, and features intarsia (it is easier than you think) that adds a little spice and variety to this otherwise very simple project. Both the width and the length of the scarf are very easy to customize, once you get familiar with the construction of the scarf. I have designed this scarf to use my DK weight handspun yarn, but you do not need to be a spinner to make this pattern – it can be modified to use pretty much any yarn! This pattern also includes a few notes on how to make sure you do not have to play ‘yarn chicken’, especially if you are using your handspun or yarn that you cannot get hold of any more. **YARN FOR THE SAMPLE** Col. A (handspun, blend of 80% Shetland, 10% merino and 10% llama fiber), woolen spun, 2 ply, DK weight, 12 wpi Col. B (handspun, 100% Shetland), woolen spun, 2 ply, DK weight, 12 wpi **YARN SUBSTITUTION** Any DK weight yarn to meet gauge. This pattern it can be adapted for any yarn weight **YARDAGE** 435 – 460 meters / 476 - 503 yards of each Col. A - B. *Please note that your yarn consumption will depend on your yarn choice, gauge, the size of your finished scarf and any other alterations you might make to the pattern* **GAUGE** 16 sts / 27 rows per 10 cm / 4 inches in garter flat after washing and blocking *Gauge is not crucial for this pattern however, please note, that if your gauge differs a lot, it will affect your yarn consumption and final size of the scarf* **NEEDLES** 4.5 mm (US 7) needles.
